Memorial Day

We had a fabulous weekend! We took a little day trip on Sunday. We went to Lyons (where Tony and I got married) and had lunch at Oskar Blues- our rehearsal dinner spot. We also stopped at the lodge where the ceremony was. I was hoping to get pictures of Asa there but they were setting up for another wedding. Darn it!
We then drove to Estes Park and proceeded to drive around forever trying to find parking. Once we found a spot, we hopped out of the car only to realize that it was windy and a very chilly 55! Apparently we failed to notice that all the tourists were bundled up and we were not prepared. So, we got back in the car and headed home! While we didn't do exactly what we had planned, we still had fun. :)
On Memorial Day Asa surprised us by rolling over during tummy time! He went from his belly, to his side for a while, and then to his back. Afterwards, he proceeded to stick his fingers so far down his throat that he puked. Hopefully that was a lesson learned?!? Ha ha

Progress Report

Ever since we brought Asa home from the hospital, we have not been able to get him to sleep in his crib or anywhere else on his back. He sleeps in his bouncer chair, car seat, swing, or while being held. It hasn't been a huge issue, but now that he's in day care, they don't have these tools and he was going to have to learn to sleep in a crib. I figure, I pay these people enough, they can teach him! ha ha. Well, they've definitely made progress. He has taken several naps in his crib at daycare. When he refuses, they do bend the rules and allow him to nap while propped on a Boppy Lounger pillow. He apparently likes the mobile above his crib at daycare so guess what we're going to buy this weekend?? :) Beyond the crib thing, he is an excellent sleeper. We've now gone 4 days in a row of sleeping through the night. He's been going down around 9 or 9:30 pm and sleeping until 6- 6:45. Sometimes I even have to go wake him up so we can get going in the morning!
Asa also continues to be an excellent eater. He eats about 4-5 oz every 3 hours or so during the day. He's pretty much stopped 'snacking' which was a lovely habit where he would eat a few ounces, take a cat nap, eat a few more, take another nap. Drinking his entire bottle at once and then taking longer naps has been a great improvement.

Asa's current likes:
  • Sucking his hands
  • Mobiles
  • Our red painting above the couch
  • Baths (until you take him out)
  • Lily & Paddy (he's starting to focus on them and smile)
  • Mornings (he wakes up sooo happy! Today is Saturday and he woke up around 5:45 am. Normally, this would be rough for me, but we were laughing in bed because he's so stinkin' cute in the mornings. Is it possible that he's made ME a morning person?)
  • Eating
  • Car rides
  • His stroller
  • Background noise/noisy places (we still think he was just born a party animal)

Back to Work

I returned to work on May 17th. I had been dreading this day since before Asa was even born! I knew it was going to be hard to drop him off at daycare and be away from him for 11 hours! If you added up all the time I had spent away from Asa since his birth, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't add up to 11 hours. Day one was rough. I cried when I dropped him off and watched the clock all day. It has gotten easier, but on any given day I would MUCH rather be with Asa than at work. Picking him up each day is the best part of my day. He usually gives me a big smile and I smother him with kisses (in response he typically grimaces- already?!?). But really...how could you not want to spend your days with this kid?

My First Mother's Day

My first Mother's Day was awesome. Asa slept through the night! When we woke up, Tony gave me a beautiful necklace. "Asa" is engraved on one side and "03-07-12" is engraved on the other side. I love it- it was the perfect gift.

Mimi and Pok Pok were in town. This was the first year in a very long time that I was able to spend Mother's Day with my mom. It was really special to be able to spend my first one with both of them. We all took a day trip to the foothills- Morrison and Evergreen. We shopped, stopped at a local bar for beers, and visited Red Rocks.

2 Month Update

I can't believe my baby boy is already 2 months old! He had his two month appointment with his pediatrician today. Here are his stats:
Height- 22 1/8 in which is the 25th percentile
Weight- 11 pounds 9 ounces which is the 50th percentile
Head Circumference- 15 3/4 which is the 50th percentile

The doctor said everything looks great and he was a champ during his visit.

As a two month old, Asa loves to sleep in his swing which is where he sleeps for his long naps and at night. He loves to be held, especially if you're standing. He is an excellent eater and makes it known that he's enjoying his meal (num, num, num). When he's fussy it's usually because he's hungry or tired. He likes to sleep swaddled, but typically busts his arms out at some point. He loves the painting we have hanging over our couch (a lot of red) and his bouncer chair. He's starting to enjoy the play mirror we have- I've caught him checking himself out a few times and smiling. He's also recently starting sucking on his hands. He likes car rides as long as we don't hit red lights (I'll have to teach him to control his road rage early) and he really loves his stroller. His happiest time is typically the mornings- that's when we get the most smiles. His grumpiest time is typically the late afternoon/early evening. He's also extremely photogenic (if I do say so). I am one proud Mama!
